Saw this infamous piece of the internet, the most blatantly sexual license plate ever to be approved! (and never taken back after years, either)

Kinja'd!!!

And some airless tires! Correct me if I'm wrong, but these are technically still in development and not available to consumers yet?

Kinja'd!!!

And some perfect timing! I would have upped the shutter speed, but I would have needed the flash to make it any faster and I didn't want to annoy the drivers.

This guy came rushing by, laying on the horn. It's easy to forget that the infield is still a part of the track and we always need to be quick to get out of the way.

Kinja'd!!!

Didn't have time to manually focus, turned out kind of cool anyway:

And finally, a super cool Miata:

I have a few more, but nothing too exciting.

airless tires are so fascinating, I don't understand why they haven't been further developed and why air-filled tires are still prevalent.

Airless have been in use on non-road going vehicles for a while.

As mentioned, airless tires have been development and use for a while, especially in high load, high durability applications like skid steers and construction equipment. If I remember right, they still have problems with high speed (resonance or something) and low temperature environments, with snow and ice building up between the spokes. I look forward to the day I can buy one, though!

I feel like these are simple problems to solve... there are numerous ways of damping resonant frequencies, and you could easily find a material to flex with the tire while still enclosing the "spokes".

Either way, I'd love to see a day where we can get airless tires to equal performance as air filled tires.

Do you have more pictures of that miata? That's awesome, half track car half not track car. So cool.

Yeah, they were. It was really cool. I never got to see them in action, though.

I don't have any myself, but it was pretty popular among the official journalists. I haven't checked but I bet Speedhunters has some pics.

They ride like regular tires. I've caught a ride in that cart :)
